Krabi guests come for the water. They stay in Ao Nang, Krabi Town or the quieter beaches to the north, and almost every message is about a boat: which island trip, which pier, whether the sea is calm enough tomorrow, how to get to Railay. The host's apartment or villa is the base, and the base gets the questions. This page covers what Krabi guests ask, how to answer, and where an AI front desk fits.
Who stays in Krabi
Krabi draws European couples and families, with Scandinavians, Germans, British and Dutch well represented in the winter, plus Chinese and Indian travellers, Malaysians on short breaks, Russians on long stays, honeymooners and rock climbers heading to Railay. Stays are three nights to a week, shorter than Phuket or Samui, because many guests are moving on to Koh Lanta, Phi Phi or Phuket.
That means check-ins and checkouts bunch around boat and flight times, and the same arrival questions repeat every few days.
The questions Krabi guests ask most
- Airport to Ao Nang. Krabi International Airport is a drive from Ao Nang. Guests ask about shuttle vans, taxis and whether Grab works at the airport.
- Island trips. "Which four-island tour should we take?" "Is Phi Phi worth a day trip?" "Can you book it?" Guests want a recommendation and a reason, not a list.
- Railay. It is reached by longtail boat from Ao Nang beach, not by road. Guests ask how, when the last boat is, and whether it runs in rain.
- The sea this month. Especially May to October, when trips are cancelled on rough days.
- Getting around. The white songthaews between Krabi Town and Ao Nang, scooters, and the limits of Grab outside the main strip.
- Ferries onward. To Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and Phuket from the pier near Krabi Town. Guests ask which pier and how early to leave.
- Early check-in and late checkout. Morning ferries and afternoon flights.
- Where to eat. Ao Nang's night market, the seafood by the beach, Krabi Town's weekend walking street.
- Water, power and wifi. Tap water is not for drinking; short power cuts happen in storms.
- The aircon remote and the hot water switch. Always.
Krabi specifics a host has to explain
Railay is a boat ride. Guests who have seen the photos assume there is a road. Say plainly: longtail boats leave from Ao Nang beach, the ride is short, boats wait to fill up, and at low tide guests wade a little to board. Say when the last boat back usually runs and that the schedule shrinks in bad weather.
The monsoon. Roughly May to October, the same as Phuket. Rain comes in heavy bursts, the sea gets rough for a day or two at a time, and boat operators cancel on those days. The honest reply is to book trips early in the stay, keep a spare day, and follow what the boat crews say. In the dry season, roughly November to April, the sea is usually calm and the islands are busy.
Two piers. Day trips mostly leave from Ao Nang beach or the nearby piers; the big ferries to Phi Phi, Lanta and Phuket leave from the pier near Krabi Town. Say which is which, and how long the drive is from the property to each.
A more conservative town. Krabi has a large Muslim community and some neighbourhoods are quieter and more traditional than the Ao Nang strip. Tell guests to dress a little more modestly away from the beach and to expect fewer late bars outside Ao Nang. One sentence, no lecture.
Scooters. Common, and the roads between Ao Nang, Krabi Town and the northern beaches are straightforward, but guests need a proper licence and the afternoon rain makes the roads slick. Say it calmly and let the guest decide.
Seasons. High season roughly November to February, with Chinese New Year and the European winter. Songkran in mid April is busy. Low season from May to October has lower prices, rain and quiet beaches; some tour operators and restaurants close for part of it.
Replies a Krabi host can copy
Airport transfer:
The apartment is about 40 minutes from Krabi Airport. Shared shuttle vans to Ao Nang leave from arrivals, and taxis have a counter in the hall. Grab works at the airport but the queue can be long after an evening flight. Tell me your flight time and I will send the exact drop-off point.
Railay:
Railay is reached by longtail boat from the beach at Ao Nang, a short ride. Boats leave when they have enough passengers, usually within a few minutes in the daytime. At low tide you step through a little water to board, so wear sandals. Boats back run until early evening and fewer in rain.
Island trips in the wet season:
From May to October the sea can be rough for a day or two at a time and boat trips are cancelled on those days. I suggest booking your island day for early in your stay and keeping one spare day. The crews decide on the morning; please follow them.
Onward ferry:
The ferries to Phi Phi and Koh Lanta leave from the pier near Krabi Town, about 30 minutes from the apartment. Plan to be there 45 minutes before departure. If you need an early checkout to catch the first boat, tell me the day before and I will have the key return ready.
What an AI front desk changes for a Krabi host
Short stays mean a new guest every few days with the same boat and transfer questions, often at night after a long flight. Nearly all of it is facts about the town and the property, written once and asked all season. An AI front desk answers those facts at any hour and leaves the host the decisions.
Tokay is one. Guests keep writing on Airbnb, Booking.com or Vrbo, and Pam, the front desk agent, answers around the clock in the guest's own language, including German, French, Mandarin and Russian. Knowledge is stored at three levels, general, building and apartment, so the Railay note and the monsoon note are written once for the whole town and the breaker location once per unit.
For the first two weeks every reply comes to the host first, approve, edit or deny with a tap. Then the host switches on what Pam may send alone, one kind of question at a time. A guest stranded by a cancelled ferry who wants an extra night, or a discount ask after a rainy stay, always comes to the host. Sam writes tomorrow's cleaning brief every night and updates it when an early checkout is agreed, reaching the cleaner on LINE. Leo sends one morning message with what happened and what needs a decision.
Tokay does not connect Agoda and does not book tours or boats. WhatsApp and LINE messaging for guests and smart locks are coming soon. On our own apartments it left about two taps a day of guest work. Prices are at /#pricing.
Questions hosts ask
Should I book island trips for guests?
Most hosts recommend one or two operators and let the guest book directly, so the host is not holding a refund when the sea is rough. Give the names, the pier and the advice to book early in the stay, and leave the money to the operator.
What do I tell guests about Railay?
That it is reached by longtail boat from Ao Nang beach, not by road, that boats leave when full, that low tide means wet feet, and that the last boat back is early evening and fewer run in rain. Four facts, one message.
Can an AI answer my guests about boat trips without making things up?
Only if it answers from facts the host wrote down and asks the host when a fact is missing. Tokay's front desk agent works that way: if the answer is not on file it asks the host rather than guessing, and every reply comes to the host first for the first two weeks.
